Getting Started
Before installing and configuring FTP lets discuss little the FTP Server. FTP Server is called File Transfer Protocol (FTP) which is the standard network protocol used for the transfer of computer files between a client and server on a computer network.
Nowadays it is also supported by Android devices and IOS devices like Mobile and Tablet. You can transfer your files using these devices too.
For more details about FTP Server visit the link. The FTP service is not installed by default on IIS. Therefore, to use IIS as an FTP server, you must install the FTP service.
Installing FTP Server
- Open the Power User menu(Press Windows key + X) and select Programs and Features.
- Click the Turn Windows features on or off link.
- Expand Internet Information Services and check the FTP Server option.
- Expand FTP Server and check the FTP Extensible option.
- Check Web Management Tools with the default selections.
- Click OK button to begin installation
Setup FTP Server
- Open Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager (pressing Windows+R, type inetmgr and press 'Enter').
- Expand and right-click 'Sites' on the Connections pane and select 'Add FTP Site'
- Name your new FTP site, enter the path to the FTP folder you want to use to send and receive files, mention port number,enter host name and Click 'OK' button.
